Party Shoes

When Older Daughter was two, she had the most wonderful party shoes for her birthday. She cried when I was putting her to bed the night of her party. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I asked, "Why are you crying, out of the blue?" "I don't want to take my party shoes off," was her lament. So she didn't. Off she went, in her pajamas and party shoes, into the crib for the night.
I still love those baby toes.

Important

My Older Daughter has told me many times that Luxembourg Gardens in Paris is her favorite place to go-to sit and read, or soak in the sun, or contemplate what mystical things women contemplate. It rained for a couple of days, but the minute it was clear, I wanted to go see the place that captivated her so. What is important to her, is important to me. This place has held her heart. I know what a precious task that is.

Ceiling

I love the way the restaurant is reflected in the ceiling. We were the first people in here for dinner. It was our only slighty hairy encounter with a Parisian, so incidental is it not worth mentioning, really. All in all it was a great dinner and the start of a perfect evening with my girl.

Painted Windows

Because of the reflection, this photo does not do these painted windows justice. We had dinner at this creperie, and the owner was delightful. She offered us menus in English when she heard us talking to each other, but after we ordered our main course crepe in French, she declared that we no longer needed English menus, and brought us dessert menus all in French. We had no trouble choosing delicious dessert en francais!

Sunset on the Seine

My Older Daughter and I made our way toward the Bateaux-Mouches at about 7:00 to stop in a cafe for dinner before the trip on the Seine. We were hoping to time our boat ride for sunset.
I figured since it was an hour and fifteen minutes, we had a good chance of seeing some spectacular sun if we timed it right.
Looks like we did. We have agreed this was our favorite outing during my visit.

Flea Market

When my wonderful daughter came home for Christmas, she had with her three scarves-one for her dear friend and cousin, Rach, (hi, Rach!) which is a deep wine red and two for herself-one cream, one lavender. I appropriated the lavender one. She told me she had found them at a flea market, and immediately I wanted to go. So we went. I did buy some little Paris trinkets for my other two fabulous daughters and their best friend and significant other respectively, but mostly I just looked. I loved the sweatshirt display.

Avec La Petite Parisienne

We walked everywhere. The streets are lovely. We held hands and laughed and cried. We said all the things you hope one day to say with your daughter. Here she is, just ahead of me a little, walking around what is, for now, her "home town."
She will miss Paris. And I suspect Paris will not be the same without her. She'll be home in 6 weeks.

Bikes

I could NOT post a photo from the hotel for some reason, so I have several backed up. And I see way too much white light in this now that it's on the blog-it doesn't actually look quite so white on the computer. Paris has this wonderful service-you rent a bike at any pickup point, ride it to the drop off point closest to your destination, and lock it up. You're done. This method of saving time/money/gas really made me love the French, even more than I already did. Across the board, without exception, we encountered friendly, polite, helpful people in Paris. I'm ready to go back!

La Tour Eiffel

Well, you can tell how we started our day. It was a little chilly this morning but we pressed on and actually enjoyed the walk-We're continuing to have a wonderful visit and my Older Daughter is so fluent in French and in Metro, as well. I am impressed.

Walking

Today we went to the Monet Museum, walking through a lovely garden on our way. The most impressive part of Paris for me is the amount of open space.
We're happy and tired.

AAAAAAAAAAAH, Paris!

Et Voila! Nous sommes au Jardin des Tuileries! I had a wonderful flight-smooth and quiet, and my sweet daughter was waiting for me as I came through Customs. I'll write more this week. We are so happy. Can you tell?
