83/365+1:Permanence

83/365+1:Permanence, originally uploaded by Yankee T.

Gigi is on her third family. Her birth parents could not care for her, so she was adopted. Her adoptive parents could not continue to care for her, so she moved in with us.
She developed a relationship with her birth family bit by little bit over the years, and once she moved in with us, we encouraged her to spend more time with them. She spent 2 weeks with her first mom, D, in July. D died in September at 49. The tattoo on Gigi's left shoulder is her permanence with D.

That's really lovely, and meaningful.

moved to tears...a beautiful and strong woman and a wonderful way of honouring a connection - I hope one day my youngest daughter will be able to have some kind of peace with her birth mom.

This is a strong image! Your daughter looks both tough and tender at the same time. My neice just got an angel wings tatoo of her own to remember my mom (her grandma).

Tough and tender is a good description. She's mostly tender, though.

What a sad but in the end lovely story. Well done Gigi for making her peace. How brave.

one of the reasons gigi is so strong, and so tender, is that she has you and the attorney behind her.

you are behind your girls 1000%. the love you offer isn't some zero-sum game, where the part you give is subtracted from anything else -- you are brave and caring enough to give the all, and that makes such a difference. it helps gigi be free to love and miss her first mother, and still know she holds a center place in your hearts. xoxox
